The Resurrection Life: Promise

Passage: John 14:15-21
Service Type:

Bible Text: John 14:15-21 | Preacher: Rev. Seth J. Thomas | Series: The Resurrection Life | In this season of Easter we’ve been looking at the ways that Jesus imparts the Resurrection Life on those who follow him, sending us out into the world as people who have come to know that Life for ourselves. We are sent to share it, to live it. The Resurrection Life is not far off, it is not a distant horizon to be a reached “some day”. The Resurrection Life is what we live in now. We are given the Resurrection Life as people set free from the pain of death’s finality. Death no longer holds the victory.

In the Resurrection Life, we’ve found Abundance, Vision, Welcome, and Home. These are foundations we stand upon — the way of Jesus that we live invites us into a radical security and peace that we can find nowhere else.

Call to Worship

O people, praise our God-
the Artist of creation,
the Lord of heaven and earth.
We worship our Maker with resounding praise!
In God we live and move and have our being;
it is the Lord who gives us life and breath.
God has kept us among the living
and not let our feet slip.
God formed all people to seek the Lord;
indeed, our Creator is never far away.
Bless the Lord, who is faithful to us!

Prayer of Confession

“If you love me,
you will keep my commandments,” you said.
And, in the breath,
you promised an Advocate would come to us.
You, Lord, were faithful to your promise.
But we have broken your law of love.
We have hoarded resources,
rather than feeding your sheep.
We have stoked competition,
rather than kneeling at others’ feet.
We have kept silent,
rather than testifying to our belief.

For not showing our love for you
by loving one another,
forgive us.
Help us obey your commandments
and keep us ever faithful to your Word
by the power of your Spirit,
who abides with and among us.

Blessing

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
